Ley Watson

For me, serving our shareholders is paramount.  I lead the Audit Team at Atlantic Union Bank which is tasked with identifying and tracking remediation of internal control issues in a timely and effective manner.  Each and every one of us at Atlantic Union Bank is responsible for the risk and control function, ensuring that our customers are safe and our bank is well-run and compliant.

My second passion is building a cohesive and qualified team of auditors that support each other and our stakeholders.  Our purpose is to be collaborative with Management and teammates in keeping our company safe.

I graduated from Lynchburg College with a BS in Accounting.  Internal Audit at a large regional bank was a logical choice directly out of college.  Within six years, I ventured off to the Big Four in public accounting, where the next 21 years provided me the opportunity to work with some of the largest financial institutions in the United States.  At the end of this run, I served as a partner with a regional accounting firm in the southeast as a ranking member of the Financial Services practice. 

As a husband, father and grandfather, my life away from work centers on all of our “goings-on”.  There are many moving pieces and it is always fun.  Also, as a student of American and global history, many lessons are kept by the past.  I believe in unlocking these lessons as they can be applicable to every facet of life.
